Kari Smart, M.D.

Dr. Kari Smart became a pediatrician because she loves sharing in the lives of children and families. For her, pediatrics has always been about relationships, celebrating milestones, supporting families through challenges, and having the privilege of walking alongside children as they grow from newborns into young adults.

Over the years, Dr. Smart has developed a love for caring for patients of all ages, from newborns to adolescents. She graduated from OHSU in 1996 and completed her pediatric residency at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in 1999. Early in her career, she worked as a hospitalist at Doernbecher, but most of her years in medicine have been spent in the clinic setting, where she has especially treasured building long-term relationships with patients and watching children and families grow through the years.

The most rewarding part of Dr. Smart’s career has been serving families here in Newberg. She has grown to love Yamhill County and feels grateful for the deep connections and meaningful memories she has built within the community. Having watched all three of her own children graduate from Newberg High School, she feels especially connected to the families who call this area home. It is truly a privilege for her to continue caring for and serving the community that has meant so much to her family.

Dr. Smart lives in Newberg with her husband, Jim. Together they have three grown children who are beginning exciting new chapters in their own lives and careers. Outside of medicine, she enjoys traveling, gardening, spending time with family and friends, and relaxing on the porch with a good book. She and Jim also love spending time with their dogs and cats, who always keep life interesting and bring a lot of joy and laughter to their home.
