At one year you may transition your child from breast and/or formula to cow’s milk. Continue to have your child in a rear facing car seat until he/she reaches the weight and height limit for rear facing use on the car seat. Your child will begin to show preferences for toys and people. Children at this age begin to imitate things that you do such as combing your hair or dialing and talking on the phone. Your child may repeat sounds and gestures to get attention.
At one year most babies will:
- Pull up on a table or chair, walk holding on to furniture, then take a few steps as they learn to walk
- Have a few words
- Follow one step directions (Go to Daddy)
- Begin to grasp smaller objects
- Explore objects by shaking, banging, putting in mouth, throwing and dropping
