Continue to offer a balanced diet. Avoid junk foods, soda and fast foods. Milk should be limited to 16 to 18 ounces per day. A regular bedtime and consistent bedtime routine are best. Take time to have your five year old share about their day. At this age your child needs more independence. However, you need to continue to set clear limits. You are your child’s most important role model. Teach healthy habits by exercising and planning healthy meals together.

Most Five Year Olds will be able to:

  • Dress without help
  • Draw a stick figure person with at least three parts
  • Jump Rope
  • Recognize most letters and begin to print some
  • Play Make Believe
  • Tell a simple story
